Editorial policy
How Look in Leeds reports on Leeds business: who writes it, how it is checked, and what happens when we get something wrong.
Who we are
Look in Leeds is an independent directory and news service covering the creative, digital and wider business economy of Leeds and the Leeds City Region. It is published from Leeds and funded by directory listings and sponsorship, not by the businesses we report on.
Every article carries the name of the person who wrote it, linked to a page listing their role, background and other work. We do not publish anonymously and we do not publish under invented bylines.
How we report
We prioritise original reporting: things we have confirmed with the people involved, documents we have read, and events we have attended. Where a story starts from someone else's reporting or a press release, we say so and we link to it.
Every article lists its sources at the foot of the page where those sources are public. Claims about a named business are put to that business before publication wherever there is time to do so.
Corrections
If we get something wrong we fix it and we say what we fixed. A corrected article keeps its URL, carries a dated correction note at the foot of the page, and records the change in its modified date, so a reader can always see that a piece has been amended and why.
We do not quietly delete or rewrite published articles. An article withdrawn entirely is replaced with a note explaining the withdrawal.
Advertising and independence
Directory listings, sponsorship and advertising have no influence over what we report. Being listed in the directory does not buy coverage, and coverage cannot be bought.
Where an article concerns a business that pays us for a listing or sponsorship, that relationship is disclosed in the article itself.
Use of AI
Articles are written and edited by people. We may use software to help with research, transcription or subediting, but a named human editor is responsible for every published word and for checking every fact in it.
