A trail is a collection you finish by turning up. Check in at a stop when you are outside it and the badge fills in. There is nothing to buy and nothing to win beyond the badge itself, which is rather the point.

How a check-in works
When you tap check in, your browser asks whether it can share your position. If you allow it, we compare that position to the listing's map pin. Within 150 m counts, once per place per day. We keep how far away you were and how confident your phone was, not where you were.
Being straight about the limits: a browser reports whatever position it is told to report, and anyone determined enough can tell it something untrue. That is fine for a badge. It is why a badge is all this earns.
